BEGINNER YOGA (NO HEAT)
If you are a new student and apprehensive about jumping right into Hot Yoga, or maybe just not up for the heat today... we now offer non-heated Beginner Hatha Yoga classes. Students will be taught basic asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation techniques to stay healthy, strong and flexible in body, mind and spirit. Classes are approximately 1 hour and for all levels. Learn the basics for a blissful yoga practice. Relax, losen up, connect with your body, breath and spirit, and forget the burdens of life for a while.
BEGINNER HOT YOGA
Our Beginner Hot Yoga class is great for beginner's as well as advanced practitioners. The class is taught in a moist, heated room (about 102-105 degrees) which helps loosen tight muscles and promotes sweating to help detoxify the body. Class moves at a slower pace, and more detailed instruction is given focusing on pranayama (breathing techniques), asana (posture), alignment principles, and meditation techniques. Each pose is held for 5-10 breaths with a short rest between to relax, integrate, and slow the heart rate. This class is powerful and transformational, will build cardiovascular health, flexibility and bring you physical, mental and emotional strength.
Vinyasa classes are more active, where students will learn how to flow from one yoga posture to the next in conjunction with the breath. Inversions and deeper variations are offered for students who are ready to take their practice to the next level. Our teachers incorporate techniques from different yoga styles including Dharma Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Baptiste Power Yoga. Be ready to sweat, challenge yourself and conclude class with deep relaxation.
DHARMA YOGA MASTER CLASS
This class is for intermediate and advanced students and yoga teachers. The practice features Level IV-V of Sri Dharma Mittra's Shiva Namaskara Vinyasa series taught exclusively at SHY by his beloved son, Dov Samuel Vargas. Be ready for an amazingly graceful, challenging practice exploring variations of advanced postures you may not encounter anywhere else, as well as the instruction in how to take the steps necessary to acquire these postures. Dov helps guide each individual to quiet the turbulent mind so as to experience the peace, contentment, and realization of the Divinity already present within you. This class is a hidden gem and is highly recommended for regular practitioners and yoga teachers. Saturday's 12-2pm. $10 additional fee for SHY Members, $20 Drop In.
The Ashtanga Primary Series is a more vigorous and challenging therapeutic system of yoga created by Pattabi Jois designed to create an internal heat to detoxify the body by cleansing muscles and internal organs, as well as improving circulation and overall health. It is a set sequenced that students are urged to memorize so that the may move into a deeper meditation during the postures and may also attend the 7am classes for a silent, more personal practice.
*7am Silent Practice
The 7am classes move at a faster pace with very little verbal instuction. Students should have a strong yoga practice prior to attending.
